UMD Treasurer’s Report for 2009 and 2010

Dear Friend:
Per a January 22, 2011 decision of the Board of Directors, from this day forth the United Macedonian Diaspora will make public its annual financial report.  UMD, which has become a leading global organization representing the interests and needs of Macedonians worldwide, aims to become more open and transparent to the wider Macedonian community.  Each and every one of us are stakeholders of UMD, and it is up to us to ensure UMD’s financial health so we can carry on the important work UMD has been doing during these past seven years.

Please find a PDF copy of my Treasurer’s report for 2009 and 2010 by clicking HERE.  Similar to other not-for-profit organizations, fiscal 2009 and 2010 were challenging years for UMD.  Throughout the last two years, UMD took deliberate actions in response to the severe economic downturn by eliminating non-essential spending.

The Annual UMD Global Conference has been a large financial strain on the organization, and our 2010 conference drained a large portion of our funding.  UMD’s President and Board of Directors are actively engaged in ensuring our 3rd Annual Global Conference this June in Washington, D.C. will be cost-effective and fundraise the necessary funds needed for our many educational charitable programs, including our scholarship fund and internship program.  Given the expense, however keeping in mind the educational nature of these conferences, and the fact that they have been gaining more momentum in our communities worldwide, UMD may move them to a biennial basis, and organize smaller national events in Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United States.

My 2009 and 2010 Treasurer’s Report will be published in our Biennial Report of Activities, which a printed copy will be given out during the June Conference and published online.  This report will be thorough and detail the important work of the United Macedonian Diaspora in the last two years.

Please do not hesitate to e-mail me at dmanevski@umdiaspora.org if you have any questions.  UMD’s Canadian Board Member Goran Saveski and myself will chair a new Fundraising Committee formed by the Board of Directors.  The goal of this Committee will be to develop a short-term and long-term fundraising/event planning strategy to sustain the financial health of UMD for years to come.  If you would like to be part of this Committee, please contact me.

UMD is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization in the U.S., tax ID #20-5182996.  UMD is a registered charity in Canada.

Sincerely,

Denis Manevski
Treasurer
